Brookline, Now Part of Republic
When we quote Tree Service in Brookline, the drop-off for the brush is just down the road. Springfield's Yardwaste Recycling Center sits at 3790 S. Farm Road 119 with a Brookline address, and it is the only city site that takes residential brush in pickup loads or bigger. Living close to it does not change the rules, though, and the rules shape how a cleanup gets done.
What the recycling center will and will not take
Limbs have to be cut to 10 feet or shorter. Pieces up to 10 inches in diameter are accepted loose. Anything thicker than that, and any root ball, has to go to the Springfield Sanitary Landfill instead. The center also turns away rocks, lumber, fence posts, dirt and bagged material. Fees run by load size: $11 for a car, SUV, pickup or short trailer, $20 for an 8 to 12 foot trailer, $26 for 13 to 16 feet, and $38 for a dump truck, with a $7 per cubic yard large-volume fee. For a homeowner doing a small cleanup, that is a reasonable option. For a full removal with a big trunk and stump, sorting by size and making two trips adds up fast, which is one reason most people have the haul-off included in the estimate.
A village that kept its name
Brookline was laid out in 1871 when the railroad reached the site and was named after Brookline, Massachusetts. It incorporated as a village in 1971 and voted to consolidate with Republic in 2005, with an agreement to keep the identity: the post office, ZIP code 65619 and signs at the former village limits. Today it is governed by Republic, but people still give their address as Brookline. The former village covered about four square miles, and the area mixes older homes along the rail line with larger parcels where the tree work is closer to small-acreage clearing than yard care.
Storm history
Brookline was named among the areas cleaning up limbs after the July 30, 2023 storms, when winds of 60 to 75 mph knocked down trees and cut power to thousands across the Ozarks. Larger lots usually mean more trees per property and longer fencelines to clear after a storm. We often start a Brookline storm job by cutting a path to the house, then working out along the fences.
Typical work
- Fenceline clearing on acreage parcels
- Removing storm-broken oaks, hackberries and elms
- Pruning yard trees on the older lots near the rail line
- Cutting and sorting wood to meet disposal size limits
- Stump grinding for pasture or lawn conversion
- Dead ash removal across Greene County

Brookline Questions
Can I just take my own brush to the recycling center?
Yes, if it meets the size rules: 10 feet or shorter and no thicker than 10 inches for loose limbs. Bigger wood and root balls go to the landfill. Check the center's hours, Tuesday through Saturday, before you load up.
Is Brookline handled by Republic or Greene County?
Since 2005 the former village has been part of the City of Republic. For city services and rules, start with Republic. The address and ZIP code still say Brookline.
I have a few acres with overgrown fencerows. Is that a tree job or a clearing job?
Usually both. We remove the larger trees, then clear the brush and small saplings so the fence can be repaired or replaced. The quote breaks out each part so you can decide how far to go.
Will you leave firewood?
If you want it. Tell us the length you burn and where to stack it. Otherwise everything is hauled.
